Bärenquell Brauerei

This is an abandoned brewery somewhere in Germany. I recently went for an urbex trip in Germany with a friend. We visited this breewery on our first day. The site is really huge, with lots of building. It's been heavily vandalized, but one can still see the beauty of this place. Some parts of the buildings have been burnt. We've been lucky with the light that day, it was a good beginning for our trip !

Villa Albert

Abandoned villa somewhere in Belgium. This beautiful house is suprinsingly well preserved, probably because it is partly hidden by the vegetation of the garden. This was a very nice exploration, and it must have been quite a luxury house. The walls are covered with wooden panels that seem to hide a secret. I admit I have searched for the little hidden mechanism to could move one of these panel, but I found nothing.

Usine Comet

Abandoned factory somewhere in Belgium. I think that this factory was producing beer kegs, at least that's what I found on the internet, but I'm not really sure about it. It was a big factory, and some of the buildings have already been demolished. I met three officials there, while exploring the place, and they told me the site was being cleaned because it was heavily polluted, but I don't know if it will totally demolished or if it will be partially rehabilitated.

Triage-Lavoir P.

Abandoned coal washing facility somewhere in Belgium. This place closed its doors in 1977. Rehabilitating works began in 2005, which can be seen by the thousands of new windows that were put in place. For an unknown reason, the works have been stopped, and now the place is still left to rot waiting to retrieve its past glory. This building is a real maze with lots of stairs everywhere.

Crypte L.

Abandoned crypt somewhere in Belgium. This crypt lies under a well known belgian cemetery and is now the eternal house of some famous people. It runs all along the graveyard, so it's quite big. It has been built in 1878 nad, from what I know, has been closed in teh eighties. The reason why it's forbidden to the public is that most of the ceiling threatens to collapse, so it's quite a dangerous place to be.

You can view the full set on my photography website.

Manoir P.

Abandoned Manor somewhere in Belgium. I don't know much about this manor, but it must have been abandoned for a real long time. The manor in itself is in a very bad state: all the floors have collapsed, all that's left of it are the walls. In fact, the most interesting part of this small exploration was the dependencies, of which you can see a shot here. There was an old Volkswagen in one of it.

Tannerie Schotte

Abandoned tannery somewhere in Belgium. This old tannery is a very big place with many buildings. It's a well known place in the urban exploration world. There's not much to see there, as almost all the buildings are empty, but the architecture of this place is very nice, making it an interesting exploration. The place is very dangerous as there is asbestos almost everywhere in it. Some rumours said it will be demolished soon, but from what I've seen during my last visit, I think they will be renovating the place instead of demolishing it, which would be a shame.

Maison Romaine

Abandoned house somewhere in Belgium. This is another shot of this beautiful house. I explored it with a friend and we were really amazed by this house. It is quite big, and as we guessed by finding some papers in it, it probably was hte home of an automotive repairer, but it's not sure.

EBTN

Abandoned military airfield somewhere in Belgium. This looks like a very interesting place, with a control tower, some buildings and hangars. I say it looks like because unfortunately I hadn't the opportunity to explore all the site, I just explored one of the buildings. While I was in the building, the police came, I just had the time to get out without being seen. I'll have to get back there one of these day !

Centrale IM: Control room

Urban exploration of an abandoned powerplant somewhere in Belgium. This is another shot of the famous Centrale IM, a well known powerplant in the urbex community. There are two control rooms in this powerplant, this is the older one, a really magnificent place, very 50's looking. For those who have played the game falllout, it will make you think of it. Unfortunately, it has been heavily damaged by the copper thieves.

Depot SNCB

Abandoned train depot somewhere in Belgium. This was a very interesting place as there were a lot of old unused locomotives inside and outside the depot. Unfortunately, when I went back there to show the locomotives to a friend, they were all gone. The depot is in the process of being renovated and sold.

Filature Nouvelle-Orléans

Abandoned spinning mill somewhere in Belgium. An exploration I did a few years ago with my wife. It was a nice location though in a quite bad state. A lot of the buildings there were really damaged by the time, but the main building was very pleasant to explore.

Piscine S.

Abandoned swimming pool somewhere in Belgium. The same day I went back for the second time to the usine Shelt, I also went back to the Piscine S to show it to a friend. Here's a picture from the diving of the swimming pool of this day's session. While exploring this building, we also noticed that the place was used by squatters. Fortunately, we didn't met anyone that day.

Ecole Blaeps 17

Abandoned school somewhere in Belgium. This is another shot from this abandoned school. I wen there a second time too. I have to say that I really like goign back to places I've already been, mostly because I think that I get a better point of view of the place than the first time. This time I met a guy in the building, I think he was as scared as me that we met. He didn't seemed to speak french, I explained him basically that I was just taking pictures, he said ok and then left the building. I think he was sleeping there...

Brasserie B

Abandoned brewery somewhere in Belgium. I found this old brewery while exploring an abandoned swimming pool. The brewery was located just next to the swimming pool. I wasn't really sure if it was really abandoned, though it looked like it was, because there were cars in the courtyard. I found a way in, and notice that it was not used as a brewery anymore but as a softair playground instead. I explored the building finding nothing interesting because it was in a really bad state, and just when I  decided I was going to leave, I found a beautiful room with some machines in it. Finally I left, happy that I could at least took some interesting pictures of it.

Usine Shelt: second visit

Abandoned steelwork factory somewhere in Belgium. I paid a second visit to this beautiful factory to show it to a friend. We had a lot of luck that day because the sun was shining an it created beautiful rays of light in the building. I don't really know why, but I like this place very much, maybe because of the quietness of the place.

Autumn waterscape

Autumn waterscape. I took this picture for a contest a few years ago and it won the first place. Strangely, a lot of people have problems understanding this picture, some even thought it was a photography of a painting. In fact, it is a long exposure shot of a waterfall. The yellow leaf was stuck in the algae and I thought it was a nice contrast with the reflecting blue sky in the water.

Hospice des vieillards

Abandoned hospice somewhere in Belgium. This old people home has been abandoned is a very nice place, even though part of it has already been demolished. What remains of it is some patient rooms, offices, but the most interesting part of it is probably the chapel. I didn't had much time unfortunately to explore it, so I haven't seen all of it, but I'll go back there soon !

As usual, you see the full set on my urbex photography website.

PRB

Exploration of an abandoned ammunition factory. This is a nice urbex place, and really huge. The site is located in the woods and has a lot of buildings, though they're all in a quite bad state, the colors one can find there are wonderful. I only explored some of the buildings, and haven't looked futher in the woods, there might be some other beautiful decay deep there.

SCPA

Abandoned agricultural chemistry and physics laboratory. This place was in a quite good state when I visited it, though I think there are squatters living there. It was used as a research center in agronomy. There was also a doctor office with a waiting room (not sure if it's called like that in english).

You can view the complete set on my photography website.

Ecole Blaeps

Urban exploration of an abandoned school somewhere in Belgium. This school hasn't been abandoned for a long time, I'd say no longer than 3-4 years. It is still in a quite good state, if you don't take in account the graffitis, only a few windows are broken, even the computer screens that can be found in some classes are almost all intacts. A real miracle ! Usually screens are among the first victims of vandalism. This school had a sport hall, and even a stage for theatre.

Villa Pesto

An abandoned house somewhere in Belgium. I know nothing about the history of this house, but it surely must have been a beautiful house in its time. Seeing how its been arranged, I think it must have been used as a school or maybe for giving conferences. This house is actually for sale, but unfortunately for the future buyer, it's been quite vandalized, so I guess he'll have to pay a lot of money to restore the old lory of this building.

Charbonnage du Hasard

Abandoned coal mine somewhere in Belgium. I've already posted a shot of the magnificient stairs of this coal mine, but I went there a second time to show the place to a friend, and just couldn't resist to take pictures again of this staircase. So here's another shot of it.

Maison Romaine

This is an abandoned house which is in a quite good state. No trace of vandalism here, I'm not even sure that someone has already explored this place before. This was a really beautiful house with lots of furniture inside it.

Miso-photography.be: website finally online !

I'm really happy to announce that my photography website is finally online ! I've been working on it for a moment now, but I was really busy and didn't really had the time to finish it. Now it's almost done. Things I still need to do before I can really say it's over: finish the design of some pages. For the moment it's a bit "raw", but the biggest part of the design is done, and at least it is up and running ! I 'll also have to had upload pictures on it (and it means a lot of work). I'm adding my photographs series chronologically, this means that you won't probably find the best shots on it at the moment, but that will come ! ;-)

What will you find there ? My pictures of course, some news and I'll also add some tutorials and tips.

Oh, I almost forgot to give you the address of the website: http://www.miso-photography.be ! See you there ! ;-)

Usine Shelt

Abandoned factory somewhere in Belgium.

This is an old steelworks factory. There's not much left of it except a huge empty building. Even though it is empty, there is a very nice water basin which creates a lovely mirror in it. The vegetation is also very present and creates an interesting contrast with the building. A very quiet and wonderful place. !

Piscine S: Stage

Shot taken in an abandoned swimming pool somewhere in Belgium.

On the floor above the swimming pool there was also a stage used probably for theatrical representation but also for projecting movies. This is a view of the stage that is located on the second floor above th swimming pool.

Urbex Tips: Equipement

Urbex Tips: Equipment

Recently, I've received some messages on my Tumblr and Deviantart account asking me some tips about urbex. Questions about photographic techniques, how I enter building, and so on, so I thought about making a serie of posts with tips about urbexing. As I'm french speaking, I'll also add the french translation of the article. First post in this serie of tips is Equipment.

Centrale IM: Cooling Tower

Abandoned Powerplant's cooling tower somewhere in Belgium.
So, this is the famous cooling tower of the Centrale IM to which I still haven't found the entrance, but at least the cooling tower was a very nice place to take pictures !

Charbonnage du Hasard: stairs

Abandoned coal mine somewhere in Belgium.
I usually don't do much black and white pictures, not that I don't like it, but because I find it really hard to do a great b&w photograph, but I'm quite happy with how this one came out !

Centrale IM: story of a fail.

Last thursday, I went to an abandoned powerstation to take some pictures of it. Unfortunately I did not find the entrance of it. I spent almost two hours climbing fences and turning around the main building, but all in vain.  The only building I could get into was the big cooling tower. Urbexing can be somewhat frustrating sometimes...

The dark room of digital photography: softwares

I'll introduce you to the softwares that I use for post-processing my images. In photography, there are two steps: first you take the pictures and then, and the second step, once you're back home, you work on them on your computer to get the result that you won't. This is the post-processing step. I mainly use two softwares for this step, though there are a lot that you can choose from. Being a linux user, I use open-source softwares: GIMP and Darktable.
